Social & environmental sustainability is one of our strategy's defining pillars. We strive to integrate socially & environmentally friendly solutions into our business practices without compromising luxury. We aim to provide an unparalleled holiday experience while ensuring the villa owners and guests contribute positively to the environment and the community during their stay in any of our luxury villas in the Ionian
For our Guests
We encourage our guests to build an eco-friendly approach, think green, and commit to minimizing the carbon footprint of their travel to contribute to a better tomorrow. We are set on raising awareness regarding sustainable tourism and taking responsibility for helping to improve and sustain the environment. We urge our guests to enjoy their stay in Ionian luxury villas, while making a positive impact on the people they interact with and the places they visit.
For Our Villa Owners
At Ionian Anthology, we collaborate with villa owners to build sustainable and eco-friendly stays. Although we cannot control what each villa owner eventually adopts, we can certainly set specific criteria to be followed by everyone and show what the ideal approach would be. Our Ionian luxury villas meet at least 70%- 80% of the sustainable practice points mentioned in the sections below to promote sustainable tourism in the Ionian Islands.
Reduced Impact on the Environment
We make active efforts tailored to respect the environment and reduce practices that have an everlasting negative impact on the environment. For instance, a single straw of plastic takes 400 years to disintegrate. Therefore, we ensure that we play our role in eliminating the usage of such products.
We ask our owners not to offer plastic straws or single-use plastic cups at the villas.
We respect wild animals. They are not displayed/interacted with/captive/sold in our villas.
Villas maintain some green space and/or local organic gardens, such as herb and/or vegetable and/or rooftop gardens, as growing local produce is healthier, requires less water and fertilizer, and cuts out transportation fuel.
Trees clean our air by absorbing harmful carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Where possible, our Ionian luxury villas respect trees by not removing them or planting new ones.
We ask our owners to eliminate single-use miniature toiletry bottles.
Reduced Waste
Where possible, we encourage the use of water coolers and dispensers to avoid disposable water bottles.
Recycling bins are available for guests, and the waste is recycled wherever the local infrastructure allows.
Recycling is clearly promoted in our house guide books, and our guests are encouraged to recycle and share our energy–saving ideas.
We encourage our guests to use reusable water bottles and coffee cups.
Reduced Water Waste
We provide our guests with the opportunity to opt-out of daily cleaning services, wherever the service is applicable.
A great majority of our luxury villas in the Ionian promote water-efficient toilets with low flow & dual flow, as well as water-saving showerheads, to minimize water waste.
Save Energy
Saving energy is crucial in today's world, for everyone's benefit.
We encourage our guests to avoid using lights, fans, air conditioning, and television when not needed or out of the villa, and always be cautious about switching them off.
We encourage our owners to use double-glazed windows, saving energy consumed by AC and heaters.
On energy-efficient lighting, we ask our owners to switch at least 80% of lighting to energy-efficient LED bulbs, which consume less power and
Likewise, we encourage our owners to use energy-efficient appliances (A++)
Where possible, most villas use solar thermal panels’ energy for hot water.
We promote a towel and sheet reuse program to conserve energy at the villas where there is a daily towel change system.
Supporting the Local Community
Supporting local people, local businesses, charities, and societies, ensures that everyone benefits from our sustainable tourism practices in the Ionian Islands. We are committed to giving back to the community and creating economic benefits for residents.
At Ionian Anthology, we develop strong and long-lasting relationships with our property owners, local suppliers, and service providers to deliver authentic Ionian experiences to our guests but also to benefit the economy.
We are focused on promoting local cuisine and Greek food, so we encourage our villa guests to eat out in local restaurants or use a local private chef for cooking in the comfort of their villa.
We promote shopping in open markets with local produce, which mostly offer superior products and the local experience.
We encourage our guests to enjoy low carbon-emitting activities, such as kayaking, hiking, cycling, walking, swimming, sailing.
We are great supporters of locally produced goods, and hence we are promoting them by providing information in our guides sent to our guests prior to their arrival.
We provide guests with information on local ecosystems, heritage, and culture, so they can learn about Greece, which plays a significant role in local economic stability.
We source our employees locally and encourage villa owners to employ local people for cleaning, pool maintenance and other ancillary services.
Our property owners support the local community too. They pay taxes in Greece, and at least part of the revenue created by these luxury villas in the Ionian gets re-invested locally. The property owners also promote local shops and markets that guests can buy from during their stay.
